Have been thinking about counselling for a while?

Nervous about contacting a therapist?

Getting in touch with a counsellor can feel awkward at first (I felt the same way). It's hard to know what or how much to say to someone you've never met especially when there's a lot going on and you may feel a bit vulnerable. If you tried therapy before and it didn't help, it does not mean it won't now. Here is how to go about scheduling your first session with Crea Counselling.

   1.  Get in touch

The first step is to email or fill in the contact form provided to arrange an initial call.

If you wish, you can refer very broadly to the nature of your concerns or mention how you came across Crea Counselling. Please remember to specify good times I can reach you during the working week so I can suggest a suitable call back time.

   2.  Let's talk

A brief phone conversation (10-15 mins) is a great way to break the ice and see if Crea Counselling is the right psychotherapy service for you.  We'll agree on a time when we won't be disturbed and anything you say to me will be in strict confidence. Before the call, I invite you to check FAQ's for Crea counselling updated fees and policies.

   3.  Let's plan

After our call, you may decide to schedule a counselling session or be added to the waiting list until a suitable appointment becomes available. Therapy sessions ( both in person and online) last 60 mins and normally take place at the same time each week. I aim to accommodate shift-work and irregular hours, but I ask a 48 hrs notice for cancellations or changes.

   4.  Let's meet

What can you expect from our first counselling/psychotherapy session? My way of working is quite informal and, mostly, we'll pick up from where we left off over the phone. We may look at what feels stuck or difficult in your life, but also what's working well enough and the resources you already have. You set the pace for the session and I will never push you to say more than you are comfortable with. Trust takes time.

 what next...

There is no pressure to continue with therapy after our first meeting. Sometimes one counselling session is all it takes to get stuff off your chest. If, however, you do wish to continue you may choose to arrange a set number of weekly appointments (usually 6-8 for short term counselling work) or opt for more open-ended psychotherapy.
